On January 12, at approximate noon, police received an emergency call that six members of one family had been murdered in their home in the country’s second largest city, Gyumri.

The press office of the police told CivilNet that the deceased all had gunshot wounds.

“Presently, there is an ongoing investigation to clarify the circumstances of this incident,” the police said, noting that they had no further information to provide.

President of the Gyumri-based Asparez Club Levon Barseghyan has been providing updates on his Facebook page about the crime. According to him, the father, mother, son, daughter-in-law and two children were killed. A six-month old child survived the attack and is currently in hospital. This information has not been corroborated by the police.

Barseghyan said that at approximately 6:20 A.M., neighbors heard something like an explosion or gunfire; they thought it could have been an earthquake. Later in the morning, at about 10:00 A.M., the sister of the killed woman had come over to the house, where she saw that her sister had been shot in the face; the other victims were all shot and found under the covers of the bed.

At this time, approximately 200 police officers are at the scene of the crime. CivilNet’s crew is now on its way to Gyumri to provide the latest details.
